Fat Grafting Surgery (Lipofilling Surgery)
- Lipofilling surgery is performed to fix minor differences in the shape, balance, or position of the newly reconstructed breast compared to the other one.
- Subsequently, the same surgery is used to rebuild a whole breast using fat.
Before
After
Lipofilling procedure:
- It uses your own body tissue instead of an implant
- Fat is removed from an area where you don’t want it (usually thighs, belly, and buttocks). Small cuts are made in the skin and a thin tube is used to suck out small amounts of fat (like liposuction); the cuts subsequently closed with stitches
- Specialised and modern equipment are used to separate the fat collected from any blood and other fluids
- Small amounts of fat are then injected into the area being treated; stitches are not usually needed at this stage
- Many women report that their fat-graft-reconstructed breast has some sensation and feels soft, much like the other unreconstructed breast

Post-surgery and recovery
You should not feel much pain during the procedure, but you may have some for a few days afterwards.
After the surgery, the treated areas will probably be bruised
and swollen for a few weeks.
It can take up to 3-6 months for a Lipofilling surgery to fully take effect, as some of the injected fat may be reabsorbed by the body during the first few weeks after the procedure.
Some complications include - temporary numbness in the treated area, significant bruising and swelling, small scars – these will fade, but may not completely disappear, loss of some fat from the treated area during the first few weeks
